Nutritional Therapy & Functional Medicine

Nutritional Therapy is the application of nutrition science in the promotion of health, peak performance and individual care.

Nutritional Therapy addresses the underlying causes of disease, using a systems-oriented approach and engaging both patient and practitioner in a therapeutic partnership.

Using both in synergy allows us to enhance our understanding of what may be contributing to someones poor health, as well as establish interventions around diet, exercise, and other components of lifestyle (sleep, stress management, emotional wellbeing) to restore health.

Lab Screening

When appropriate, functional laboratory testing may be recommended as a way to investigate nutrient status or underlying biochemical imbalances which may be contributing to your symptoms.

With our growing understanding of how personalised our response to food, and our environment is, often laboratory testing becomes a crucial component of optimising health. The severity of the condition, and especially someones current lifestyle, dictates whether testing may be beneficial to do at the beginning of the programme, or at a point further down the line.

Laboratory tests are done through internationally renowned laboratories.

It is so important to appreciate that nutrition plays just one part in what influences our state of health, even when discussing something specific such as microbiome health. We must consider the other foundational elements of health which include:

  • Physical activity
  • Sleep quality and quantity
  • Emotional wellbeing including our sense of purpose and meaning in life
  • Breathing efficiency and mechanics
  • Our childhood – click here to read my blog post on the impact of adverse childhood events
  • Our relationships
  • Our ability to meet and communicate our needs
